Angus Buchan is a tough, straightforward South African farmer of Scottish extraction, whose gentle but uncompromising faith has carried him through drought, financial crisis and family tragedy. Called by God to preach the gospel, he has found the Holy Spirit working through him in amazing miracles of provision, healing and changed lives.
“The prayer of faith shall heal the sick.” This is the most moving testimony of the healing powers of Christ since Alexis Carrel’s Journey to Lourdes. And like that great book is soundly based on medical training and experience. In his Harley Street clinic, Dr Woodard specializes in the treatment of soft-tissue injuries in sport, and many of the greater athletes of today can testify to his skill.
It might be asked, what connection have athletes with faith-healing? ‘My experience with athletes’, says Dr Woodard, ‘has made it much simpler to appreciate how vitally important the man can be in the treatment of all disease. I try to point out to them how essential it is for them to believe in themselves.’ This self-confidence, the need for which any sports coach would acknowledge, is precisely the basis on which faith-healing rests. But it is only the first step.
The turning point in Dr Woodard’s life came when his two-year-old son Christopher was stricken with fulminating meningitis. The child’s life was despaired of – but not by his parents. Their faith and prayers, and the prayers of hundreds of their friends, pulled him through. This book tells the story of how Dr Woodard, by self-training, self-preparation and prayer, has been enabled to bring Divine Healing to hundreds of other sufferers.
He describe cases, many of them from his own practice, in which faith has brought about a cure. Not by any means all of these what the layman would call ‘miracles’. In some of the recovery was slow and gradual, and only came because of the faith that refused to surrender. In others, recovery was sudden, complete and – to medical science – inexplicable. ‘I have the complete conviction’, he writes, ‘that there is no such thing as an incurable disease – no such thing as an easy or difficult case of healing in Christ’s name.’
